DOST XI supports women-led entrepreneurs through Food Additives, Coloring, and Preservatives Seminar in Davao Region
Food science experts and food technologists from the Department of Science and Technology – Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) provided relevant information on the appropriate use of food additives, coloring, and preservatives and the harmful effects if not used properly during a seminar held recently. The topics mentioned above was discussed by . DOST-ITDI Food Safety Section Head, Ms. Lourdes S. Montevirgen including food safety principles and use of food additives in various foods while Ms. Pete Maverick Nicole Estudillo, DOST-ITDI Science Research Specialist I discussed the Philippine Regulations on Food Additives.
A total of 24 enrolled women micro entrepreneurs (WMEs) from Davao Region attended the activity via online platform and face-to-face set-up.
This activity was held in support of women-led entrepreneurs under the GREAT Women Project 2 (GWP 2) of the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST XI) in partnership with the Philippine Commission on Women and the Government of Canada.
The seminar aimed to refresh and increase WMEs' knowledge on Food Safety principles and protocols as well as tips, techniques, and concepts in making food products safe for the consumers by knowing FDA approved additives. DOST XI S&T Information and Promotion
