MARAWI CITY -- It's all systems go for this weekend's observance of the fourth anniversary of the liberation of this city following the five-month siege laid by Daesh-inspired Maute terrorist group in 2017.

Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Chairman Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario on Thursday flew to Marawi City to conduct inspections and lead other preparatory arrangements.

No less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is expected to lead the activities inside Marawi City's ground zero today (Saturday, 16 October).

"We are all set to show the President what we have achieved so far with regards to the rehabilitation of public infrastructures," the TFBM chief said.

Secretary Del Rosario, who also heads the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the rehabilitation more than a year after it went full blast.

"This week's events indicate Marawi's continuous return to progress and marks a new chapter of the Islamic city's path to peace and development," he stressed.

Highlighting this week's celebrations is the unveiling of the marker and inauguration of the Grand Mosque, which was damaged during the five-month battle between government forces and terrorist groups.

President Duterte, who promised four years ago that he will see to it that Marawi will rise again as a prosperous city, will lead the reopening of the Grand Mosque.

Other senior Cabinet officials are expected to join the Commander in Chief.

Aside from launching the newly reconstructed Grand Mosque, other activities lined up this week include inauguration of the Raya Madaya Barangay Complex – the sixth such facility to be rolled out inside the Most Affected Area this year, groundbreaking ceremony of the Department of Information and Communications Technology Telecommunication Building in Barangay Datu Naga, turnover of permanent shelters in Barangay Gadongan, the rollout of a school building, the ceremonial handover of school furniture and inspection of permanent shelters in Barangay Patani.

There was also a scheduled wreath-laying ceremony at Kampo Ranao in honor of soldiers, as well as civilians, who paid the ultimate price in protecting and defending Marawi from terrorists from May 23, 2017 to October 17, 2017. (DHSUD)
