PASAY CITY -- In line with his commitment to ensure underprivileged sectors are well-supported during these challenging times, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go reassured Filipinos of continuing government programs that would help struggling communities recover from the challenges brought about by the health crisis.

On Wednesday, October 6, Go's outreach team conducted a relief distribution at Upper Mapula Gymnasium for a thousand indigent residents of Barangays Mapula and Salapawan, Paquibato District, Davao City. The team strictly enforced necessary safety and health protocols to ensure public safety.

Go's staff distributed meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins to the beneficiaries. Meanwhile, select beneficiaries were also given new pairs of shoes and bicycles that they can use for a convenient commute. Others received computer tablets to help their children participate better during classes.

As part of the government's efforts to support deprived families amid pandemic, a team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development distributed financial assistance through their Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

Meanwhile, representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority conducted an on-site assessment of individuals who could potentially participate in their respective livelihood and scholarship programs.

"Naghihirap talaga kami ngayon dahil sa pandemic. Kaya po para kay President at Senator Bong Go, ipagpatuloy niyo pa ang pagtulong sa iba pa at sa mga katulad ko na indigenous people, dahil kayo ang aming isip, ang aming leader dito," Leah Mañauron, one of the beneficiaries, shared in an interview.

In his video message, Senator Go asked the beneficiaries to get vaccinated to get protected from the threats of COVID-19. He then urged the public to continue adhering to necessary health preventive measures even after getting fully vaccinated to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Go, who serves as Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography, offered to assist those who need medical treatment; he advised them to seek medical assistance from the Malasakit Center located at Southern Philippines Medical Center in the city.

"Ang Malasakit Center po ay batas na, isinulong ko noon, pinirmahan ni Pangulong Duerte, para po 'yan sa mga poor and indigent patients. Lapitan n'yo lang po ang Malasakit Center handa pong tumulong 'yan sa ating kapwa Pilipino," said Go.

As Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, Go committed to support several initiatives in the city to promote economic recovery amid the ongoing health crisis. Among these projects are the construction of multi-purpose buildings within the compound of SPMC Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and in the City Library Complex; acquisition of ambulance units and the construction of 300-bed capacity infectious disease building in SPMC; acquisition of a multi-purpose vehicle and a mini dump truck in Brgys. Callawa, Panacan, Lapu-Lapu, and Cabantian; and construction of drainage systems in Brgys. Centro, Agdao, Gov. Paciano Bangoy, Bunawan Proper, Tomas Monteverde Sr. Agdao, and Mintal.

Go also supported the construction of more multi-purpose buildings in Brgys. Ilang, Mintal, Panacan, San Antonio, Tigatto, Waan, Pampanga, and Gov. Vicente Duterte; and the construction of drainage systems in Brgys. Mintal, Mudiang, Wilfredo Aquino, Ubalde, Buhangin Proper, Centro, Gov. Paciano Bangoy, Bunawan Proper, and Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr.

The senator then lauded the local government officials of Davao City who continue to cater to the needs of their constituents.

"Salamat po sa inyong sakripisyo sa panahon ngayon. Magtulungan lang po tayo. Huwag n'yo pong pabayaan 'yung ating mga kababayang mahihirap po. Magtulungan lang po tayo," he ended.

Earlier, Go's team conducted similar distribution activities at Brgys. Acacia, Angliongto, Buhangin Proper, Cabantian, Communal, Tibungco, Panacan, Sasa, Mudiang, Gatungan, Alejandra Navarro, and Indangan. (OSBG)
