"To the staff, I encourage you to support Brigadier General Camba as you supported your previous Chiefs of Staff of Philippine Army... I am very optimistic that with his expertise, Brigadier General Camba will be able to further elevate quality of service we can provide to Army personnel and Filipino people," Philippine Army led by its commanding general, Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., led officials in welcoming Brig. Gen. Potenciano Camba as its new chief of staff. Prior to his new assignment, Camba commanded 102nd Infantry Brigade. He was previously Army's assistant chief of staff for personnel and commander of 2nd and 3rd Special Forces Battalion of Special Forces Regiment (Airborne).
He is member of Philippine Military Academy "Sambisig" Class of 1991.
Brawner at the same time praised Maj. Gen. Jose Eriel Niembra for serving as acting chief of staff on top of his duties as acting Army inspector general.
Brawner conferred Meritorious Achievement Medal to all soldier-athletes who won in various international sports competitions.
The Army athletes earned gold and silver medals during Singapore Beach Wrestling Festival, Benin International Open Badminton Tournament, Australia Beach Volleyball Tour Championships, Altitude Obstacle Course Race World Championships, 5th Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon, Philippines Masters International Athletics Championships, and boxing tournaments.
"The journey of our Army athletes is already an exceptional story in itself… story of determination, hard work, dedication, and passion began the moment they started in their individual sport and was further heightened when they took oath to serve people and secure the land as members of Philippine Army," Brawner said.
Also, the Army conferred meritorious one-rank promotion to champion boxer PFC Charly Suarez.
Brawner pinned new stripes on Suarez who was recognized for his exemplary performance in the October 2022 "Ultimate Knockout Challenge: Battlefield" World Boxing Association Super Featherweight title match in Parañaque City and December 2022 International Boxing Federation Asia Junior Lightweight title bout in Vietnam.
