Being in an industry that has a lot to do with physical attributes and living in a society where lots of people set standards when it comes to beauty, actress Ria Atayde's embracing her body has not been an easy thing to do, yet she managed to be a symbol of body positivity as she inspires women of different sizes and shapes.

Looking back at the time when she became a calendar girl for a popular brand of whisky, Ria shared she also got a number of negative comments, but there are also people who reached out to her and thanked her for inspiring them to love their bodies.
"When the calendar was released, there were negative comments, but there are people who would reach out and say, 'Thank you, you embraced your body and it taught me to embrace mine, too,'" she recalled in a press conference, as reported by PEP.
"Given how society is and how our industry works, it can be ruthless when it comes to physical attributes," she said. "What I always tell people is, at the end of the day, it should be the opinions of people that matter to you which should matter."

To note, losing weight is not easy for someone like Ria because she has hypothyroidism.
"I have hypothyroidism. I have no gallbladder. Losing weight is a lot harder for me than it is for other people," she stated. "So, go ahead. Call me fat. Anong magagawa ninyo? I'm sick with stuff I can't fix."
"For me, sexy has always been about being confident and comfortable in your own skin," she went on. "Being able to embrace it and celebrate it because and in spite of its flaws. And I think after the calendar, I can celebrate it even more. It didn't change it, it made it even more real to me."
