Several factors may increase your chances of surviving to 100 if you're interested in doing so. Start by giving up smoking, maintaining a nutritious diet, getting regular exercise, and consuming less alcohol.

But if you speak with centenarians themselves, you may be astonished to find out that they followed their own rules, some of which are pretty peculiar.

1. Be present in the now.

As the television writer and producer of programs including All in the Family, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Good Times, and Maude, Norman Lear has been active in the public eye for decades. He became 100 years old on July 27, 2022, and in The New York Times, he wrote an opinion piece on his age and the status of American politics.

Earlier this week, Lear told USA TODAY, "I cannot believe a century has gone. "I'd like to think that a new century has begun. How intriguing is that? He continued by saying that he still finds value in each day. "Some folks take off. I never run. I get out of bed and do things that make me happy. I gave myself it as a gift. That is my request. That's all there is.

Lear used social media on the eve of his 100th birthday to provide tips for living a long and fulfilling life. His point? abide by the present. "The pause between the past and the present... The moment is in the hammock between after and next. Respect it. Use it."

2. Avoid getting married.

Leandra Becerra Lumbreras, who was born in Mexico in 1887, lived to be 127 years old, making her the oldest person ever known. Her family passed down the advice from their grandmother regarding her illustrious lifetime when she passed away in 2015. The Daily Mail quoted Lumbreras as saying, "Eating well, sleeping for days on end, and never getting married," as the key to a long life.

3. Eat raisins and pray.

Lucia DeClerck, a native of New Jersey, made news last year when she received a COVID-19 diagnosis on the day of her 105th birthday. She just had her second immunization and recovered completely. DeClerck offered the following advice while speaking with The New York Times on how to live to 100: She told the newspaper, "Prayer. Prayer. Prayer." One step at a time, I say. No fast food.

Her subsequent suggestion was more peculiar: 9 gin-soaked raisins should be consumed every morning. "Fill a jar," she instructed. "Nine raisins per day after it sits for nine days."

4. Add some coffee spice.

2019 marked the 100th birthday of Italian immigrant Giuseppe "Joe" Silveri, who resides in Vancouver, Canada. On the occasion of his 100th birthday, he gave his top tips for extending your life. His approach? Every morning between nine and ten, he would meet his neighbor for an espresso infused with his preferred booze, usually brandy or grappa.

Ernesto, his son, adds that he also adheres to more conventional health precautions. He told a Vancouver television station, CTV television, "What he always says is keep active, work in the garden all the time, and eat well." That's all, then.

5. Steer clear of guys and eat oatmeal.

Jessie Gallan, who was formerly the oldest lady in Scotland, lived to be 109 years old in 2015. "My avoidance of men has been the key to my long existence. On her birthday, she told the Daily Mail that they were just more hassle than they were worth. In addition, I made sure to exercise often, eat a warm bowl of porridge every morning, and never got married.

6. Keep working out.

Dancer Henry Danton, who was born in Britain, celebrated his 100th birthday in 2019 by imparting his longevity wisdom to Today. He said, "It's not fantastic, you have to look for yourself. "Your only possession is your body. You must take care of the magnificent instrument that you have been given.
He continued by saying that he had never intended to stop working as a ballet teacher since it kept him both physically and intellectually engaged. He said,

"I honestly, really think exercise is the solution to everything.
Danton continued by saying that maintaining a positive outlook and spending time doing what you enjoy helps promote good health. It serves no purpose to make your life miserable," he continued. Your physical state is undoubtedly impacted by your emotions.
