Imee opposed MUP pension share
By Nidz Godino
"Huwag kailanman tayo papayag na babawasan ang sahod o anumang pera ng kapulisan," Sen. Imee Marcos speaking during Police Community Relations Day celebration at Camp Crame, vowed to block proposals by economic managers of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., her brother, requiring military and uniformed personnel (MUP) to contribute to their pension through their salaries.
Her remarks elicited cheers from lawmen led by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., who earlier said 60 percent or 136,800 of 228,000-strong police force are against proposed contributions to their pension ranging from five percent to nine percent.
For FMJ, officials pushing for such policy for those in uniformed service are committing sin not only against God but government.
Acorda earlier said deductions for pension contribution would have significant impact on salaries of PNP members even without existing loans, especially on lower ranking lawmen.
Instead of contributions, Marcos said another option to get funds for pension is through assets and properties of PNP.
