Capsized boat Safety certificate of off Binangonan suspended

CAPSIZED MB Aya Express certificate of safety was suspended by Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) following its capsize off Binangonan, Rizal , left 26 people dead.
In statement regulatory body decided to suspend safety permit of MB Aya Express after "unfortunate sea incident, raises concerns about integrity of ship's hull, integral parts, and other affected machineries,appliances."
According to Philippine Coast Guard's latest count, at least 26 individuals have died and six have gone missing from incident, which took place less than 50 meters away from Barangay Kalinawan, Binangonan Rizal.
Capsizing happened Thursday after strong winds hit vessel, making passengers panic and shift to one side, PCG reported.
Marina will conduct Marine Safety Investigation of vessel and check its compliance with safety regulations after PCG wraps up its search and rescue operation.
Regulatory body has also issued show cause order against shipowner.
In interview with media representative of PCG will investigate why vessel was allowed to sail despite being overloaded.
According to PCG, vessel could only carry 40 passengers but at least 66 passengers have been identified during coast guard's search and retrieval operations. Based on its initial investigation, only 22 people were listed on passenger manifest.
