Joyce Rupp, in her book "Your Sorrow is My Sorrow," explores the seven sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary found in Sacred Scripture. Reading through them, I could not help but reflect and relate the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin to the sorrows of my own mother. Her recent sorrow is my entrance to the seminary. The fact that I had to leave our home caused her sadness and pain. Although my decision brought delight to my family, it is still not easy to live differently from what we used to, both for me and my family, especially for my mother.
Today's Gospel teaches us to face the inevitable sorrows that are strapped around our acceptance of following God's plan. Mary lovingly accepted hers. We continuously embrace Mary as our Mother. Despite her struggles and pains of witnessing her Son suffer and die, she remained steadfast in her faith. She is a woman of profound joy, inner peace, resilience, compassion, and hope.
