Tropical storm Jenny moves northwest

"Tropical Storm Jenny is not directly affecting the country at this time…however, due to proximity of track forecast to extreme Northern Luzon, heavy rainfall over Batanes and Babuyan Islands may be experienced on Tuesday or Wednesday," Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tropical storm Jenny may intensify into severe tropical storm today and reach typhoon category by tomorrow, as it makes its way towards the Philippine landmass.

PAGASA said Jenny is not directly affecting the country yet, but it may bring heavy rainfall over Batanes and the Babuyan islands this week.

Jenny was monitored at 995 kms east of Central Luzon, carrying maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

PAGASA said tropical cyclone wind signals may be hoisted over parts of Extreme Northern Luzon by today or tomorrow.

Storm is moving generally northwestward at 10 kph until tomorrow before turning westnorthward on Tuesday.

State weather forecasters said t landfall, or close approach over extreme Northern Luzon or northeastern mainland Cagayan, is not ruled out.

Jenny is forecast to enhance southwest monsoon that may bring possible occasional rains over western portions of Southern Luzon and Visayas starting today.

Trough of Jenny will continue to bring scattered rains over Quezon, Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.

Southwest monsoon is also bringing cloudy skies and scattered rains over MIMAROPA, Zamboanga Peninsula and rest of Visayas.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may see isolated rains due to Jenny's trough, as well as localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during heavy rains.

Tropical Storm Jenny has decelerated as it moved northwestward over Philippine Sea.

Eye of the storm was last seen 995 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

"Landfall or close approach scenario over extreme Northern Luzon or northeastern mainland Cagayan is not ruled out since these scenarios are within forecast confidence cone."

According to PAGASA, weather disturbance is forecast to move northwestward until Monday.

Tropical storm is seen to steadily intensify throughout forecast period and could reach severe tropical storm category come Sunday.

"Current forecast scenario shows tropical cyclone wind signals may be hoisted over extreme Northern Luzon Monday in anticipation of onset of tropical cyclone severe winds," PAGASA said, noting that it could occur earlier should there be changes in forecast.

Jenny may also enhance the prevailing southwest monsoon, resulting in occasional rains over the western parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas on Sunday.
