Whenever my friends are experiencing problems and struggles, I notice that they would usually go to me to seek my advice. However, I realized that they are not really after my advice. Instead, they are looking for someone who will listen to them attentively and sincerely. There are times that our friends and loved ones do not need beautiful words from us but ears that are willing to listen.
The Gospel today reminds us that it is not enough that we listen to other people. What is equally important is that after we listened, we act. Listening is more than hearing; listening implies that one hears, pays attention, and seeks to understand. One who listens also acts on His word. The Gospel challenges me to respond to God whenever I hear Him speaking to me through different persons, events, and situations in my daily life. Responding to God means to fully embrace and surrender to His will. May we always listen to the message of God revealed to us every day and act on it.
