Having the ability to assert oneself is a crucial aspect in possessing leadership qualities and authority. I remember struggling to express myself during my early school years, especially when it came to sharing my opinion and ideas. In situations where I needed to give my side, I often held back and failed to provide feedback, comments, or suggestions. My classmates and peers had even criticized me for the times I seemed uninterested in the topic being discussed. This difficulty in asserting myself stemmed from the lack of encounters from my childhood.
Seminary formation has helped me break out of my shell and be formed in integrity. Today's Gospel challenges me to learn to express myself and assert authority, just like Jesus did when He preached the Gospel and rebuked unclean spirits.
