Growing up, I often heard people say, "𝘔𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘬𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘰 𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘪 𝘮𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘰" (I believe you must be good just like your parents). Although I find it a compliment, it sometimes made me feel ashamed especially when people notice me at parties or fiestas, drinking liquor with my friends. My father was known in our community as someone without any vices, let alone drinking liquor.
Jesus said, "For every tree is known by its own fruit." The quality of a tree is determined by the quality of its fruit. As I take the path towards priesthood, I am challenged to be a "good" fruit that shows genuine compassion for others, is ready to make sacrifices in service to God, and is willing to be "broken and shared." Through these actions, people would know that the source of all goodness is a "good tree" who is Jesus himself.
