In a heartfelt invocation, Senator Imee Marcos sought divine intervention for her brother, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., urging spiritual protection against harmful influences. Addressing a gathering at the Jesus is Lord (JIL) event in Norzagaray, Bulacan, Senator Marcos implored for divine guidance and enlightenment for the President, advocating for a clear vision and a safeguard against the detrimental elements surrounding him.
"May you touch my brother's heart, the President of the Philippines; open his eyes and grant him the light of understanding—awaken him and keep him distant from the devils that lurk around," she prayed, emphasizing the need for vigilance against those driven by greed and a thirst for attention.
This moment of spiritual supplication comes against the backdrop of intense political discourse, with Senate President Migz Zubiri highlighting a looming "Constitutional crisis" linked to the contentious move for Charter change through a people's initiative. This initiative, allegedly propelled by the House leadership, has sparked a rift, leading Senator Marcos to point fingers at her cousin, Speaker Martin Romualdez, as a key proponent.
In response to Romualdez's denial regarding the alleged dangling of P20 million per district to garner support for the people's initiative, Senator Marcos called for composure and patience until the forthcoming Tuesday hearing. Asserting her stance, she clarified, "I am not initiating a conflict; it seems they are the ones overreacting. I am merely providing advice and making decisions on what should be done."
Romualdez, countering the claims, urged Senator Marcos to substantiate her allegations, stressing his readiness to engage in dialogue, be it through a call, a text, or public discourse, as per her preference.
Amid these turbulent times, the Senate has collectively voiced its opposition to the ongoing people's initiative, which aims to revamp the 1987 Constitution by permitting all members of Congress to vote jointly on proposed constitutional amendments in a constituent assembly. Senators have expressed their concerns, arguing that such a voting arrangement would undermine the significance and impact of their votes against the overwhelming majority of House representatives.
As the political saga unfolds, Senator Imee Marcos' prayer at the spiritual gathering not only reflects her personal concerns for her brother's presidency but also underscores the deep-rooted complexities and entanglements of political dynamics and family ties in the upper echelons of Philippine governance.
