SINGAPORE - President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. extended his birthday greetings to Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday, celebrating her 46th birthday and highlighting her dedication and love for the Philippines.
"Happy Birthday, Inday Sara! Your hard work and love for the country strengthen our youth and teachers. Let us continue this for a robust education system under the Bagong Pilipinas!" Marcos stated.
Marcos is currently in Singapore to deliver a keynote address at the 2024 IISS Shangri-La Dialogue. In his absence, Vice President Duterte, along with Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III, is overseeing the country's affairs.
Duterte was Marcos' running mate in the 2022 elections.
First Lady Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos had previously expressed resentment towards the Vice President after former President Rodrigo Duterte, Sara's father, referred to Marcos as "bangag" or high on drugs. The First Lady was particularly offended when she saw Sara Duterte laughing at her father's remark during a rally in Davao City earlier this year.
Despite this, President Marcos affirmed there was no need to replace Duterte in his Cabinet, acknowledging her value and contribution to the administration.
