Residents of a village in Parañaque City have raised concerns about suspicious activities involving Chinese nationals, prompting the Southern Police District (SPD) to launch an investigation.
"If such incidents are happening, we will validate them and assign our chief of police to the case," SPD chief Police Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete said in an interview with Super Radyo dzBB.
In a separate interview, village homeowner Janet Tayag-Ong expressed residents' worries about illegal activities and recent law enforcement raids in their area. She noted that a high-rise building housing Chinese nationals has been a particular source of concern.
Despite reporting their concerns to various government agencies, Ong mentioned they have yet to receive substantial feedback. "Because of what happened in Bamban, we are more worried now," she said, referring to a recent raid on a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Tarlac.
Authorities are investigating potential links between the POGO hub in Bamban and recent human trafficking and online scamming busts in Parañaque City. The raid on May 2 was initiated following complaints from homeowners about violations of the village's three-story building regulations. This was not the first POGO-related raid in the area.
To ensure peace and order, Rosete stated that police personnel would be deployed to the village. "We will continue to coordinate with homeowners to identify the troublemakers, particularly Chinese nationals, and address the situation," he said.
