As part of the first Linggo ng Unibersidad of the University of the Philippines (UP), a recognition ceremony was held for agency-hired employees at the UP SOLAIR Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City, on June 11. The awardees of the "Pagkilala sa mga Natatanging Paglilingkod ng mga Agency-hired na Kawani" were cited for their long years of continuous service to UP System offices and their commitment to UP's brand of public service.
Augustus C. Resurreccion, UP System Vice President for Administration, praised the workers for keeping the UP Diliman campus safe and clean, and conducive for education, research, extension, and administrative functions performed by constituents of the University. He also expressed admiration for their dedication to their work even in times of calamities affecting the campus. "Ang tagumpay ng isang pamantasan ay hindi lang nasusukat sa akademikong tagumpay. . . kayo ay bahagi ng tagumpay na ito. Ang inyong sipag at dedikasyon ay inspirasyon para sa lahat," Resurreccion said.
UP President Angelo A. Jimenez highlighted in his message that "UP works because you work" and that agency-hired employees, specifically the security and maintenance personnel, are University office-mates who also serve as the students' second parents or guardians inside the campus. "Dito po sa UP, walang malaki o maliit na trabaho. Lahat ay mahalaga, lahat makabuluhan. Pantay-pantay nating ginagampanan ang ating tungkulin para sa kapakanan ng lahat," he said. "Sa inyo na aming mga katuwang, salamat po sa inyong serbisyo," concluded Jimenez.
Nineteen workers received their certificates of recognition for 3-4 years length of continuous service, 21 employees were cited for 5-9 years of service, and five more were awarded for 10 or more years of service to UP, which included the pandemic years. They were accompanied by their supervisors as they were called on stage to receive their awards from UP System officials.
Jose Fernando T. Alcantara, UP System Executive Vice President, said in his closing message, "Ito ay taos pusong pagkilala. Tayong lahat ay isang pamilya."
With Jimenez, Resurreccion, and Alcantara were: Rolando B. Tolentino, Vice President for Public Affairs; Richard S. Javier, Assistant Vice President for Administration (Human Resource Development) and Director of the System Human Resource Development Office; supervisors and staff of the HRDO; and the directors or supervisors of the offices that the awardees belong to.
