Actor and director Michael De Mesa found himself stranded on the road for 17 hours after leaving a taping session on Wednesday afternoon due to the severe flooding caused by Super Typhoon Carina.
In a series of Instagram posts, De Mesa shared his ordeal, which began at 2:30 PM when they wrapped up taping in Cainta. Driving through heavy rain and flooded streets, he soon found himself stuck in the same area for five hours as night fell.
"There's no sign of the flood receding. Oh my god, and my car is malfunctioning," he said in a video. He captioned the post, "The roads are impassable due to waist-deep flooding, and my car has malfunctioned from the water I had to drive through earlier. It's nighttime now, and I haven't eaten. I guess we definitely shouldn't have gone to work today."
By Thursday morning, De Mesa updated his followers that he was still stranded. "Stranded for 17 hours now," he wrote. "Naiiyak na ako. The tow truck can't get through, and my anxiety is kicking in. I just want to go home."
His wife, Julie Reyes-Eigenmann, commented, "Praying you'll be home soon, my love. Hang in there." Fellow actors Yasmien Kurdi, Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Eula Valdez, and others expressed their prayers for his safety.
De Mesa, from the renowned Eigenmann family of artists, is part of the cast of "Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis" and the upcoming GMA-7 series "Forever Young."
State of Calamity and Continued Impact
Metro Manila was declared under a state of calamity on Wednesday due to severe flooding. Many malls and establishments provided shelter, parking spaces, bathrooms, and internet access to those affected.
Cainta, Rizal, also declared a state of calamity on Thursday morning as Typhoon Carina exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility. However, many areas in Metro Manila remain flooded.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres noted on "Unang Balita" that the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will continue to bring moderate to intense rains over the western section of Luzon.
Several organizations, including GMA Kapuso Foundation, have initiated donation drives to support those affected by the super typhoon.
