The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) is set to begin construction on a P32 billion entertainment complex in Clark, Pampanga, slated to open in 2025. This development aims to cater to high-profile concerts and boost local tourism and the economy, as reported on "24 Oras Weekend."
Addressing Concert Venue Needs
The announcement comes amid Filipino fans' disappointment over the Philippines being excluded from Taylor Swift's "Eras" tour, with speculation that local venues did not meet the concert's requirements. Swift last performed in the Philippines in 2014.
Vision and Capacity
Arrey Perez, president of CIAC, emphasized the project's vision to enhance Clark's appeal and market reach.
"When we had this vision to have the entertainment center in Clark, we already did a lot of promotions, market sensing. We've gotten some interests," Perez said.
Unlike larger venues such as the Singapore National Stadium and Tokyo Dome, which have a seating capacity of 55,000, the new complex will target a capacity of around 25,000 to 35,000 seats.
"We've done some studies. It's hard to fill up 55,000 seats. The ideal is about 25,000 to 35,000 seats as more events can be hosted," Perez explained.
Inviting International Artists
Perez expressed the corporation's intention to attract international artists, including Taylor Swift, to perform at the new venue once it is completed.
"We will court her. I hope that by the time we build our complex, we are ready to host her and they agree to come," Perez said.
Economic Impact
The entertainment complex is expected to significantly increase the number of travelers to Clark and strengthen the local economy, offering a state-of-the-art venue for various large-scale events.
