San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced on Monday his intention to speak with a male resident who went viral for his unruly behavior towards a delivery rider during the Wattah Wattah Festival.
"Siya ngayon ang bagong mukha ng Wattah Wattah Festival at nakakalungkot at nakakagalit," Zamora said in Jun Veneracion's "24 Oras" report.
(He has become the face of Wattah Wattah Festival. It's sad and angering.)
"I will summon and talk to him personally. We would make sure he would learn his lesson for the rest of his life," Zamora added.
Despite attempts to locate the resident, he has not yet been found at his address. However, multiple online delivery orders have been sent to his residence by individuals angered by his behavior.
Barangay Balong Bato Chairperson Alvin Alonzo appealed to the public to stop sending orders, as it inconveniences hardworking delivery riders. "We are appealing to those who are ordering online to stop. The ones you are inconveniencing are the riders and their livelihood," he said.
The Wattah Wattah Festival, held annually on June 24 in honor of patron saint John the Baptist, involves traditional water dousing. However, some residents took the tradition too far by drenching unwilling passers-by.
Mayor Zamora apologized for the chaos and inconveniences caused by the festival and indicated that the city government would implement changes for future celebrations. A city ordinance already prohibits forcibly opening vehicles to drench passengers and climbing or shaking vehicles. Zamora said the city would address loopholes in the ordinance and designate specific areas where water spraying is allowed.
