"Once you commit wholeheartedly to a goal, the rest will fall into place." - Atty. Angeli Alyssa Andan, Tarlac Center
When I was young, my mother planned to enroll only my kuya in Kumon. However, I asked her to sign me up too. Little did I know that this simple request would mark the beginning of my Kumon journey. Looking back, that decision became a significant turning point in my early education and personal growth.
Reflecting Back on the Journey
Before Kumon, Reading and English were definitely the most challenging subjects for me. I struggled with analyzing texts and using critical thinking skills in school. I often found myself overwhelmed by complex passages and unsure of how to interpret them. However, Kumon helped me develop these skills, and over time, I grew more confident in my ability to tackle difficult readings and express my thoughts clearly.
I was very young when I first studied in Kumon and answered my first worksheet. I think I was just around 5 or 6 years old when I tackled basic addition and subtraction. As a child, I was very excited because I loved numbers even before Kumon.
When the topics in Kumon became challenging, I had to think and go back to the reason why I started. Quitting was never in my mind because my goal was always to finish and complete the program.
Throughout my years at Kumon, I developed essential academic skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management. These skills have been invaluable to me, especially since I was also very active in school. Balancing extracurricular activities and academics required me to think on my feet and manage my time efficiently, and Kumon provided the foundation I needed to succeed in both areas.
Kumon taught me the importance of valuing time. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to become overwhelmed by the many tasks and challenges we face. However, through Kumon, I learned how to balance my responsibilities and make the most out of my time. This skill has been invaluable in helping me stay organized and focused, allowing me to tackle life's demands with confidence and efficiency.
I remember feeling a rush of happiness and excitement each time I advanced to a new level in Kumon, even though it meant facing new difficulties and challenges. Kumon taught me to view challenges as opportunities for growth and development, just like in life. Now, instead of shying away from obstacles, I embrace them, knowing that I have the skills and perseverance to overcome anything that comes my way.
I found inspiration to complete the program by looking up to those who had finished before me. Seeing other students successfully complete the program motivated me to push through challenges and stay committed to my goals. Their accomplishments showed me what was possible and fueled my determination to reach the finish line myself.
Reaping the Benefits of Kumon
Reading has always been one of my strengths, and Kumon played a pivotal role in guiding me toward my current career. The critical thinking and problem-solving skills I developed through Kumon were instrumental in shaping my path to becoming a lawyer. These skills have been invaluable in my legal career, allowing me to analyze complex cases, construct compelling arguments, and navigate the intricacies of the legal field with confidence.
Through Kumon, I learned the importance of perseverance, continually striving to succeed with each worksheet, and correcting my mistakes along the way. This lesson proved invaluable during law school, where experiencing setbacks such as poor recitations, failing marks, and low grades is quite common. My Kumon experience taught me that it's okay to make mistakes and face corrections—as long as I learn from them and keep trying. This mindset helped me approach challenges with resilience and determination, ultimately contributing to my growth and success in the legal field.
The most profound lesson I gained from my Kumon journey is that once you commit wholeheartedly to a goal, the rest will fall into place. Understanding and remembering "why you started" is crucial in achieving your objectives. This sense of purpose drives you through challenges and keeps you focused on reaching your goals, making the journey not only manageable but also fulfilling.
To my fellow Kumon students, always remember that when you dedicate both your mind and heart to your Kumon studies, you will not only gain valuable knowledge but also unlock your full potential. Your commitment and enthusiasm are key to overcoming challenges and making the most of your learning experience. Embrace the process with passion and perseverance, and you will find that your efforts lead to remarkable growth and success.
Now that I am a full-fledged lawyer, I aspire to explore new business ventures in the near future, with a long-term goal of owning my own coffee shop and bakery. I'm excited about the journey ahead and am committed to turning this vision into a reality.
