Political parties allied with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. gathered in Malacañang on Monday night to plan their strategy for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, according to House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The meeting included key figures from several parties, such as Lakas-CMD, led by Romualdez; Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), headed by Marcos; the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC); the Nacionalista Party (NP); and the National Unity Party (NUP). Discussions focused on strengthening unity and developing effective strategies for the 2025 elections.
Romualdez emphasized the importance of the meeting, describing it as "more than just a strategic planning session" but also a commitment to the Filipino people.
Notable attendees from the PFP included Special Assistant to the President Antonio "Anton" Lagdameo Jr., party president South Cotabato Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo, retired Gen. Thompson Lantion, and lawyer George Briones. Lakas-CMD was represented by Senior Deputy Speaker Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr., House Majority Leader Rep. Manuel Jose "Mannix" Dalipe, Agusan del Norte Rep. Jose "Joboy" Aquino II, and Deputy Speaker Rep. David "Jay-jay" Suarez.
From the NP, Senator Mark Villar, Rep. Ferjenel Biron, and Rep. Yevgeny "Bambi" Emano attended, while the NPC was represented by former Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III and Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza. NUP was represented by its president, Rep. Luis Raymund "L-Ray" Villafuerte, and Secretary General Rep. Albert Raymond Garcia.
Romualdez stated that this meeting is just the beginning, with plans to further strengthen their coalition as they approach the 2025 elections. The administration has yet to announce its Senate slate for the polls, with the filing of candidacies scheduled for the first week of October.
