After an illustrious 33-year career with "TV Patrol," veteran television anchor Henry Omaga-Diaz has bid an emotional farewell to the program as he prepares to join his family abroad.
Omaga-Diaz made his final appearance on the news show on August 30, where fellow anchors Noli de Castro, Karen Davila, Bernadette Sembrano, Gretchen Fulido, and Ariel Rojas paid heartfelt tributes to him. Karen Davila praised his humility and kindness, saying, "What many people don't know, on and off camera, is you are such a kind person...you're very humble, Henry; you don't have egoism." Noli de Castro added his well-wishes, advising Omaga-Diaz to reach out if he ever faces challenges in Canada.
During his farewell, Omaga-Diaz expressed his deep appreciation for his "TV Patrol" family and the newsroom staff, acknowledging their unwavering support and dedication. "Our colleagues in the newsroom have been very supportive, up to editing the script, the video… That's the best feeling, those colleagues, you can see the love in them," he shared.
In a recorded message, Omaga-Diaz's wife, Gigi, expressed her excitement about finally having him join her in Canada after a long wait. She acknowledged the difficulty of his decision to leave his beloved career but reassured him that opportunities await him in his new home.
Despite stepping down from "TV Patrol," Omaga-Diaz made it clear that his passion for journalism remains unchanged. He mentioned in an interview on Radyo 630 (formerly DZMM TeleRadyo) that he plans to continue his journalistic endeavors in Canada, saying, "You may not see me in TV Patrol every day, but the journalist in me will not go away… What I will do there is still related to journalism."
Omaga-Diaz has had a remarkable four-decade career, covering major events such as wars, natural disasters, and international news. He reported on significant stories like the trial of Sarah Balabagan in the UAE in 1995 and the evacuation of OFWs from Libya in 2011. In addition to his role on "TV Patrol," he hosted various shows, including "Magandang Gabi… Bayan," "Hoy Gising!," and "XXX: Exklusibong, Explosibong, Expose."
As he embarks on this new chapter, Omaga-Diaz leaves behind a legacy of dedicated journalism and heartfelt storytelling that will be remembered by his colleagues and viewers alike.
