Filipino actress Maris Racal became emotional after watching the official trailer of her upcoming movie "Sunshine," set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024 this September.
Racal shared her reaction on Instagram, expressing how overwhelmed she felt seeing the culmination of nearly a year's work come to life on screen. "Di ako makapaniwala na natapos na namin ang pelikulang 'Sunshine' pagkatapos ng halos isang taon," she wrote, expressing gratitude to the film's director, Tonet, and the team for their dedication and passion. She highlighted the film's focus on women's rights and bodily autonomy, emphasizing, "Para ito sa kababaihan at sa kanilang karapatang magpasya para sa sarili at sa kanilang katawan."
The actress also expressed pride in having "Sunshine" debut at TIFF 2024, calling it a "great honor to share a Filipino film with the world."
However, Racal noted on X (formerly Twitter) that due to prior commitments, she will not be able to attend the festival.
"Sunshine" tells the story of a young gymnast, played by Racal, who finds herself pregnant just before tryouts for the national team. The film explores her dilemma and the difficult choices she faces regarding her future.
The movie also stars Annika Co, Jennica Garcia, Elijah Canlas, Meryll Soriano, and Xyriel Manabat. TIFF 2024 will feature 43 films from 41 countries, including entries from Algeria, Australia, Canada, China, Germany, and more. The 49th edition of TIFF will take place from September 5 to 15 in Toronto, Canada.
