French NBA star Rudy Gobert expressed sadness after Shaquille O'Neal called him the "all-time worst" NBA player during an interview with Complex Networks. Gobert, a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, responded on social media, saying he was disappointed that his achievements seemed to "trigger" O'Neal.
"It is sad to see someone who has accomplished so much… still be triggered by another man's finances and accomplishments," Gobert wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
O'Neal criticized Gobert for not delivering enough value on the court for his substantial salary, reportedly $250 million. The NBA legend added, "If you sign a contract for 250 (million dollars), show me 250 (worth of effort)."
Gobert, who currently plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves, has won the Defensive Player of the Year award multiple times and led the NBA in rebounds and blocked shots during his career. He took a dignified approach in his response, stating that Shaq didn't need to stir controversy to stay relevant.
