Senator Imee Marcos announced on Saturday that she will seek reelection as an independent candidate in the 2025 elections, despite being included in the administration's senatorial slate endorsed by her brother, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
In a social media post coinciding with the 35th death anniversary of their father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., Imee emphasized her decision to "stand free and firm" like her father, pledging allegiance solely to the Filipino people. "I chose to stand alone so that my brother will no longer be put in a difficult position, and my true friends won't have to hesitate," she explained.
Though currently affiliated with the Nacionalista Party (NP), Imee's decision to run independently raises questions about her political alignment in Eleksyon 2025. She expressed gratitude to President Marcos and the NP for including her in the administration's slate but reaffirmed her commitment to serve Filipinos "without favor."
Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, campaign manager for the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, praised Imee for her advocacies and public service, saying the alliance continues to support her despite her independent run.
