Newly-designated Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cesar Chavez emphasized the need for timely announcements regarding class and work suspensions. During his first press conference in Malacañang on Thursday, Chavez proposed the establishment of a digital hotline to ensure these announcements are made before 4 a.m.
"In that digital hotline, which includes the Office of the Executive Secretary, Office of Civil Defense, PMS, PAGASA, Office of the Presidential Communications Office, and even the appointment secretary, DILG, and MMDA, its task is to ensure that before 4 a.m., there's already an announcement if the Office of the President needs to issue one," Chavez explained.
Chavez took his oath before President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on September 5, succeeding Cheloy Garafil, who was reassigned to the Manila Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan.
President Marcos has instructed relevant government agencies to provide early advisories for class and work suspensions due to inclement weather. He expressed his desire for the public to know about cancellations by the evening before, allowing them to plan accordingly.
