Senator Risa Hontiveros criticized the motion filed by Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy to be placed under hospital arrest in Davao City. Quiboloy is facing serious charges including human trafficking, rape, and child abuse.
"These are serious crimes, and all accused should be treated equally, regardless of status or connections," Hontiveros said. She rejected what she called Quiboloy's "entitled" request for hospital arrest, stressing that he should not receive special treatment.
Hontiveros also remarked, "He is no longer inside the 'King Dome,' so he should stop pretending to be God."
However, KOJC legal counsel Atty. Israelito Torreon clarified that their motion was misunderstood. The request for hospital arrest was made due to Quiboloy's "delicate medical condition" and advanced age, but not specifically for Davao City. Torreon stressed that this was a typical motion submitted for detainees in similar situations.
The motion comes after the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed Quiboloy's lawyers requested his transfer, along with co-accused Ingrid Canada, to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center due to health issues.
A Pasig City court has yet to rule on the motion but has ordered a medical checkup for Quiboloy and Canada. Meanwhile, Quiboloy will remain at the PNP detention facility pending the resolution.
Quiboloy, who has pleaded not guilty to human trafficking charges, also faces separate indictments in the United States for sex trafficking and other crimes.
