Sual, Pangasinan Mayor Liseldo "Dong" Calugay has taken a medical leave from September 9 to 13, designating Vice Mayor John Christopher Arcinue as acting mayor during his absence. The executive order cited ongoing medical concerns as the reason for the leave. Calugay has been linked to dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, but was unable to attend a Senate hearing on September 5 due to dengue.
During a Senate committee hearing on women, children, family relations, and gender equality, Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed hope that Calugay would attend future sessions once his medical leave concludes.
Despite the connections being speculated, Guo has denied any relationship with Calugay, referring to him as a "friend." The Senate committee previously issued a subpoena against Calugay after he missed two hearings.
In the ongoing inquiry, Calugay's executive assistant, Cheryl Medina, was questioned about an Accounts Insurance Membership ID issued under the name Shiela Guo, which was supposedly linked to the local government. Medina denied the existence of such an ID, explaining she was not in office when it may have been issued.
