The 2024 Ten Outstanding Ilonggos of Iloilo City were awarded during the city's 87th Charter Anniversary celebration. Among the recipients, a good number are UP Alumni. They include: - Dr. Erlinda Ganzon-Naret: Dr. Ganzon-Naret earned her Master of Aquaculture from UP Visayas (UPV) and is associated with its College of Fisheries & Ocean Sciences. She is a prolific researcher, presenting her work at several local and international conferences inAquaculture and Fisheries. She was Host Scientist to Japanese researchers under the Core University Program as an Exchange Researcher with Prof. Shunsuke Koshio of Kagoshima University, Japan. She was also named Career Scientist 1 in 2014 by the Department of Science and Technology and the Civil Service Commission's Scientific Career System.
- Justice Francis H. Jardeleza (ret.): Justice Jardeleza graduated from the UP College of Law, cum laude and class salutatorian, and then placed third in the Philippine Bar Examinations in 1974. He is a former Solicitor General and served as the 173rd Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. He is a major figure in legal practice and public advocacy, spearheading the Philippine team in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, advancing the Philippines' claims in the West Philippine Sea dispute, among other contributions.
- Dr. Bernadette Jardiolin-Madrid: Dr. Jardiolin-Madrid graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 1983. She is a prominent advocate for child safety and protection, currently heading the Child Protection Unit in, and serving as Clinical Associate Professor in the College's Department of Pediatrics. She was a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee in 2022, and was named one of Tatler Asia's Most Influential in 2022 and 2023, as well as one of People Asia Magazine's People of the Year in 2023. She is an active member of the National Network to End Violence Against Children, and has partnered with several government and private institutions to improve child safety in the country.
- Jose Mari Benjamin Francisco U. Tirol, Ll.M.: Atty. Tirol earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from UPV in 1994 and has served as the College of Law Dean of the University of San Agustin since 2014. A prolific writer, his ideas have been cited in everything from Supreme Court and Court of Appeals decisions to opinions in the Philippine Senate and the Department of Justice. He is also Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the University of San Agustin and holds similar positions in other institutions. He is also a well-regarded lecturer and a recipient of the Erasmus International Credit Mobility (ICM) Grant for Staff Mobility for Teaching at the Universidad de Málaga, Spain.
- Dr. Clement Castigador Camposano: After earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Political Science from UP Diliman, Dr. Camposano finished his Doctorate in Philippine Studies from the same university in 1992. He is currently the 11th UPV Chancellor. Dr. Camposano is a prominent researcher and lecturer in the social sciences, with titles to his name including: "The Nation as Project: A New Reading of Jose Rizal's Life and Works" and "Plural Entanglement: Philippine Studies". He is also the President of the Philippines Studies Association and serves on the board of the Anthropological Association of the Philippines.
- Atty. Jobert A. Peñaflorida: A CPA-lawyer who also earned his Master's degree in Business Management from UPV, Atty. Peñaflorida is known across the country as a journalist, entrepreneur, and civic leader. He is the Founding President of the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. the Regional Governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Western Visayas, and Co-Chair of the Regional Development Council 6, among other achievements. He is perhaps best known as a multi-awarded news anchor with ABS-CBN TV Patrol Panay and GMA 24 Oras Western Visayas.
