The UP Procurement Office (UPPO) awarded medals of distinction to the top five outstanding graduates of the "UPSkill: The UPPO Certification Program Batch 2," and presented certificates of completion to all the graduates of the program on Sept. 13 at the Institute of Biology Auditorium, College of Science, National Science Complex, UP Diliman (UPD), Quezon City.
Atty. Rissa L. Ofilada, UPPO director, facilitated the awarding ceremony for the 2nd batch of "Procurement Champions." She highlighted the important work being done by procurement officers in ensuring efficient, organized, and successful procurement in every UP unit, since public funds are utilized in the operations and services of the university. She added that the graduates were expected to foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, and improvement as they would now begin a new chapter in their professional development.
Dr. Ian Kendrich C. Fontanilla, director of the Institute of Biology, delivered an inspirational message for the event. He remarked that the complex procurement process was a public service and had to be done correctly the first time, adding that "procurement delayed is procurement denied."
Project leaders of UPSkill graduates delivered testimonials on their respective unit's program graduates. These were: Dr. Maria Corazon A. De Ungria, chairperson of the UPD Research Ethics Board, represented by Gretchen Velarde; Dr. Wilson O. Garcia, director of the UPD National Institute of Physics, represented by Dr. May T. Lim; and supervisors of the batch's top five.
The top five are: Sean Sebastian of the Supply and Property Management Office; Hazel Victoriano of the UP Resilience Institute; Marvin Mulle of the UPD College of Human Kinetics; Grace Dumencel of the Department of Computer Science, UPD College of Engineering (COE); and Genelyn T. Perez of COE. Perez, the most outstanding of the batch, who delivered the message on behalf of the new graduates.
Shedee Grace Galeon, UPPO administrative officer, called each of the graduates to receive their certificates on stage.
Atty. Jaime Arroyo, UPPO administrative officer, led the graduates in reciting the "Procurement Champion's Vow" at the end of the ceremony.
This event serves as the culmination of the UPPO's five-day training and certification program, with examination, held in July for UP Diliman-based administrative personnel who serve as procurement frontliners.
