Due to the present rainy season, the city government recently launched a device made by a Mindoreño, that will warn residents when the water level rises in the Bucayao and Panggalaan rivers which could cause flooding in the aforementioned place.

The Localized Automated Flood Early Warning System was designed by Enrg. Angelica F. De Leon, an Electronics and Communication Engineer from Divine Word College of Calapan. It has a sensor that detects the set water level in the river that will whistle loudly, to warn residents for possible evacuation of the area, once it reached a certain level.

Mayor Panaligan was pleased with the said device, saying, "this gadget is a big help that will warn the Calapeños a few hours before the flood rises in their area and also give them a long time to evacuate."

Meanwhile, the said equipment will draw energy from the installed solar panel and apart from the Bucayao and Panggalaan rivers, it will also be installed in the barangays of Buhuan, Sta. Cruz, Nag-Iba 1 and 2, Gutad and Maidlang covered by District 10.

The mayor, on the other hand, gave full support because he said it is rare to have such talent, especially a Mindoreño has invented the apparatus.
