Lawyer Michael Aguinaldo has been appointed by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. as the new chairman of the Philippine Competition Commission.
Aguinaldo, former Commission on Audit (COA) chairman, will serve for a term expiring on Jan. 7, 2030, the Palace said in a statement.
Aguinaldo first joined government after his exit from Romulo Mabanta Law firm in 2011 and assumed post of former president Benigno Aquino 3rd's Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs, also heading Investigation and Adjudication Office, previously the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC).
He took on his position as COA chief in 2015, following his appointment by Aquino and approval of Commission on Appointments in June the same year.
An experienced lawyer, Aguinaldo has extensive legal, governance and administration expertise. For 17 years, he was with Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & De Los Angeles Law Firm, serving as partner and executive committee member. As educator, Aguinaldo taught at De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University School of Law and Far Eastern University.
Aguinaldo obtained his juris doctor degree from Ateneo de Manila University in 1992 and holds Masters Degree with special concentration in International Economic Law from University of Michigan. He placed 7th in the 1992 Philippine Bar Exams.
Today, Aguinaldo serves as External Auditor of World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, and International Labor Organization of the United Nations.
Apart from Aguinaldo, the President also appointed Robert Bioco as acting Administrator and Member of National Food Authority; Edgardo Pamintuan as acting Chairman and Member of Board of Directors of Clark Development Corporation; Robert Joseph De Claro as acting Member, Representing Employers' Group of Social Security Commission; and Jocelyn Cabreza and Alan Luga as Acting Members, Representing Banking, Finance, Investment, and Insurance Sectors of Government Service Insurance System.
Also appointed are Genesis Abot as Deputy Director General of the Anti-Red Tape Authority; Faith De Gua as director 3 of Presidential Communications Office; Gloria Balboa as Assistant Secretary of Department of Health (DoH) ; Johanna Banzon as Director 4 of DoH; and Rodley Desmond Daniel Carza as Director 3 of DoH.
