Comedian Lassy revealed that his house was severely damaged by the recent Carina typhoon, causing an estimated P500,000 worth of personal belongings to be destroyed. The "It's Showtime" host expressed his distress as he showcased the aftermath in a vlog on Beks Battalion's YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 31.
Among the damaged items were Lassy's shoes, household appliances such as the refrigerator, television, microwave oven, portable speakers, electric fans, and various gadgets. The floodwaters had reached halfway up the second floor of his home, forcing him to swim to safety.
"[The floodwaters reached] the second floor, halfway up the second floor," Lassy recounted to fellow comedians Chad Kinis and MC Muah. "It's so difficult because it feels like starting over from scratch. Everything is back to zero... The house is so exhausting to deal with... It smells like floodwater. It's so hard to move around."
Lassy, who had experienced flooding before in 2012, described this incident as much more traumatic. "The first time, in 2012, it didn't reach the second floor. This one is severe. It's extremely traumatic."
When asked by Chad about the estimated value of the lost items, Lassy speculated that it might be close to half a million pesos.
During the early hours of Typhoon Carina, Lassy instructed his family to evacuate to their second house, which has a balcony for safety. He stayed behind to secure their main house and had to swim with a water gallon to reach the roof, where he awaited rescue.
Lassy also shared a harrowing moment when the rescue boat carrying his family capsized, causing them to lose their father's urn. Fortunately, Lassy later retrieved the urn after swimming back to the location.
Despite the ordeal, Lassy remains resilient. "It's exhausting but manageable. My father passed away just over two months ago, and now this," he said in the vlog.
Currently, Lassy and his family are staying in a temporary home, with plans to find a larger place to move into soon.
