The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Wednesday that they anticipate the return of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo to the Philippines within the week. This comes after Guo, also identified as Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, was arrested in Tangerang City, Indonesia.
"We are anticipating that we will be expecting this within the week," BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said in an interview on Balitanghali. When asked if Guo's return was unlikely to happen today, Sandoval confirmed this was their belief.
Sandoval added that the BI is coordinating with Indonesian authorities to facilitate Guo's return. Upon her arrival in Manila, Guo will undergo standard booking procedures.
Guo, who is facing a deportation case with the BI for undesirability and possible misrepresentation as a Filipino national, has also been involved in several legal cases in the Philippines, including a human trafficking complaint related to a raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Bamban, as well as a money laundering complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ). There are also a quo warranto petition against her in a Manila court and a petition to cancel her birth certificate in a Tarlac court.
Despite the pending deportation case, Sandoval noted that the BI must wait for the resolution of her other cases in the Philippines before proceeding with any deportation. "Even though her immigration case would be the first one to be resolved, we would have to wait for the resolution of her other pending cases here in the Philippines before we can implement any deportation," she explained at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.
Guo's arrest was confirmed earlier by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and the National Bureau of Investigation. She was apprehended for being an illegal alien in Indonesia.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco also stated that the BI has forwarded information regarding Guo's arrest to the Department of Justice and the Office of the Executive Secretary. "We are anticipating her return to the Philippines soon," Tansingco said.
Guo was revealed to have left the Philippines in July. During a hearing last week, her purported sister, Shiela Guo, testified that she, Alice Guo, and another individual named Wesley Guo fled the country using several boats.
