President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. declared on Wednesday that the arrest of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo should serve as a stern warning to anyone attempting to evade justice in the Philippines.
In a video message released after authorities announced Guo's arrest in Indonesia, Marcos emphasized, "Such is an exercise in futility. The arm of the law is long and it will reach you."
Marcos assured that Guo would receive all legal protections afforded under Philippine law, in line with the government's commitment to the rule of law. However, he emphasized that this would not lead to any unnecessary delays in the resolution of her case. "We will not allow this to prolong the resolution of the case, whose outcome will be a victory for the Filipino people," he stated.
The President also expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian authorities for their cooperation in apprehending Guo. "I congratulate all law enforcement personnel who made this apprehension possible," Marcos said. He further acknowledged the complexity of the mission and extended his thanks to the law enforcement teams involved.
Guo, identified by Philippine authorities as Guo Hua Ping, faces multiple legal issues, including alleged involvement in the operations of an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban. She was ordered arrested by the Senate in July after repeatedly failing to appear at an investigation into the raided POGO hub in her town. Guo has denied the allegations against her, including claims of being a Chinese citizen.
