Aya Medel, the former actress known as the "Papaya Queen" of the 1990s, has opened up about surviving a brain aneurysm. In a heartfelt Facebook post on September 21, Medel shared that she faced a life-threatening condition but is grateful for her second chance at life.
Medel posted photos from her time at Cardinal Santos Hospital in San Juan, where she was treated, and expressed her gratitude to loved ones and medical staff for their support. She also thanked the clients of her restaurant, Ishiaya's Garden Bistro, for standing by her during her recovery.
"I had a brain aneurysm, but I survived," Medel wrote, acknowledging that she is one of the fortunate few who lived through the dangerous condition. "Thank you, Lord, for giving me another chance to live. And yes, I am back."
Medel began her career as a model and actress, starring in several films and TV shows, including Maalaala Mo Kaya and Magpakailanman.
A brain aneurysm occurs when an artery in the brain bulges, putting pressure on nerves and brain tissue, which can lead to a stroke, coma, or death.
